-For many months, a mysterious 140-metre-long, six-floor superyacht named The Scheherazade, towers in the shipyard in Marina di Carrara, a town on Italy’s Tuscan coast, with many people speculating the identity of its wealthy owner. The Scheherazade, said to be worth $700m (£528m), is under investigation by Italian authorities for potential links to sanctioned Russians. Activists working with the jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny are in no doubt that the yacht is owned by the Russian president Vladimir Putin.

  1. I lived several years in and around Pisa. I cannot tell you the number of yachts I saw floating by on the Navicelli Channel bound for its maiden voyage from the port of Livorno. They were certainly beautiful. As for superyachts, those just look downright obscene to me, a blistering indictment against greed & vanity.
